Wanted to start off with an easy one!

Los Liones, which is referred to as both Los Liones on Google Maps and Los Leones on park maps, is an up and back down hike in Pacific Palisades that you can easily knock out before your New Year's Resolution-breaking brunch.

During the hike, you'll get some beautiful ocean views from Santa Monica to Malibu, starting off with mostly shaded trail and ending with some upward trail that is exposed.

Here I am early on in the hike, describing to Ash what a true wedding arch should look like.

When you reach the top (which is only defined as the top by us because we were ready to turn around, you can continue on up to other trails if you wish), you'll be able to see clearly through Santa Monica, all the way to Palos Verdes if there are no clouds. There's a big open area with some nice photo-ops.

Feel free to stare meaningfully into the ocean, as if to say, "This world has secrets, beholden to no one living species, boundless in its beauty and fraught with mystery." I think that's what Ash did.

Once you return to your car, whip out the mimosa flutes. You've done your first hike of 2019.
